What chair?

Now that I've spent hideous amounts of cash on the PC, it occurred to me that I'm still sitting on an old, slightly rickety dining room chair, that's the wrong height for my desk, and isn't very comfortable...

So, I've glanced through bits of the rooms gallery, and there are some nice looking chairs - so what do people recommend?

Ideally I'd like a chair that has adjustable height (obv...), adj back, no arm rests, that is solid, built to last and somewhat stylish (not that important to be honest).

Bear in mind that I'm 6' 2" and am not the lightest of people...

Are there any particular shops that people would recommend?

Cheers folks,
Simon

I think the only way to choose a chair is to go and sit in some.

Locally I'm restricted to PC World and Staples, and perhaps a few small office suppliers, but they tend to only have cheap stuff in my experience.

Ikea's a good shout actually, hadn't thought of that...

On the other hand, I haven't got a Staples that close iirc, and I refuse to go to PC World and give Currys/Dixons/PC World any of my money.

Ikea is a grand place. I used a - now discontinued - Allak chair which was perfect.

Looking I'd say the Markus chair at £115 looks a good shout or the Verner at £69. The Verner is basically the Allak... but the thing I found is if you are in it long periods of time it got a little warm with the leather... but the Markus has a clever mesh to allow airflow to keep you cool... and it has a head rest. :)

Bought one last week, it is sooo comfy! I suffered a ruptured disc in November, previous chair would aggravate my back even though it's better now. Not a twinge with this one. I'm forging a nice ass-groove in it too. Has a good range height adjustment too as well as a tensioned (to taste) tilt back (or off if required). Excellent for solid floors too as the castors wont rotate when not under any load, so if you go to sit down on it, it actually stays in one place without rolling into the living room... good for when you've had a few ;)

Ikea Markus is very comfortable, though you may need a thin pillow on the back to reduce the concave arching (in my experience at least).

Another Ikea Markus owner here, designed for office use i.e. long periods in the chair. Very very comfy.

Make sure its made for your weight and very heavy use... had 7 broke on me now as were not made for long stints...

I'm talking 12 hours a day some days... uni work takes for ever these days

Hmm, you know, I just wanted a chair that would be ultra comfortable and definitely built to last... so I opted for an arm chair. Specifically the Relaxateeze Uno Leather Swivel Recliner Chair (in black) before Christmas. It doesn't tick most of the boxes you wanted but I thought you might want to keep in mind other options.

I have to say though, it's awesome just lying back and surfing the web on this thing.

I really wanted the SwingSeat but couldn't afford it at the time I needed a chair, so went with the Markus like tons of other people on OCUK. It's pretty comfy and for the money I'm pleased. I'd love a Herman Miller and all that but even used you're talking a fair bit more money.

I've sat down in one of those at a shop and yes, very very comfortable. I didn't notice if you could recline more forwards so you sit more up right as the one I sat in felt like something for the lounge to watch tv etc.

What is it like? :)
