An interesting change when I stopped is that my Doctor stopped stressing how likely I was to develop a really, really nasty disease.

Also more cash, didn't stink, not a social pariah etc etc.

I quit in 2002.
Smell / smell / smell.
Smell, almost instantly. It's staggering how utterly awful you smell to non-smokers. I really hated going out to pubs/bars until the smoking ban came into effect in 2007.

My doctor and I don't speak anymore because she's always banging on about the damage I'm doing and diseases etc.

It's just a drag.

I don't feel like I'm going to puke when I brush my teeth anymore, my clothes don't have a stale smoke smell, I notice how horrific my colleagues smell, food tastes better, I no longer have a black stain on the back of my lower front teeth, my lungs feel "cleaner". I have lots more money!

Gave up 5 years ago:

Much more stamina in exercise.
A lot of spare cash.
Don't smell like a bonfire
Put weight on initially, then because exercise was easier I took it off again. It's much easier to put on weight though because smoking suppresses appetite.
Less hangovers and generally feel much better first thing in the morning

To give up smoking you have to REALLY want to give up just for yourself, not for any other reason.

Pretty much this. Plus a little bit of depression and for some strange reason everything looked weird after quitting.

9 weeks into my quit after smoking for 20 years (42 years old almost).

Google smokers luck by HORIZON.

I will never smoke again.

Most noticeable thing for me was my sense of smell and ability to keep my breath longer under exercise. There are loads of other health benefits that are brilliant and you really do notice them.

What covenantuk says about giving up is right. Only when you REALLY want to do it for your own reasons will you succeed. It is actually quite easy to do if this is the case also. Cravings are easily dissipated with patches/gum.

Easily one of the best decisions I have made ever :D

Cash
Smell... Not that bothered me too much. Used to it.
less coughing..

Mostly cash... about £5/6 a day.. when i quit. adds up. Plus i cut down on going out when pubs banned it, id say that ultimately lead to me quitting.

Real quitters go cold turkey.

Half quitters use gum/patches or therapy.

If you WANT to quit then do it.

This by a millions miles is sooooo true.

If you want to quit, you'd bin the fags today. Now.

Fags
Lighters
Ashtrays

Throw them all away.

Get ready to crave! In the mornings. After eating. When yo have break.

It gets easier! after a week the cravings do die down down. After a month you'll have forgotten about fags.

Cold turkey is for winners. Winners need willpower.

I took up vaping instead around 9 months ago because it is now a hobby I can't say I've saved money but for me:

1) My clothes don't smell like a bonfire
2) Saved money on dry cleaning my suits regularly
3) Better health more stamina
4) Less irritable
5) Sense of smell and taste is better
6) Teeth are much brighter
7) No more tar stains around the house. You'd be surprised how dirty smoke leaves your ceiling; windows etc
8) Wife appreciates not being kissed by an ashtray
9) You will save a **** load of money
10) Skin condition is better

Have a steak whilst you smoke.

Wait 2-3 months after you've quit.

Have another steak.

Compare. :D

First on my list of things to try when I knock it on the head again.
