What classic games would you like to see remastered?

Been thinking recently about some of my favourite PC gaming memories. There are lots of games that have had sequels but there are plenty I'd like to see remade with modern technology but still retaining their classic gameplay.

Thought I'd see what games people would like to see be remade and what changes you'd like to see to get the best out of them.

Personally I'd love to see:

Battlefield 1942 - Still my favourite game of the franchise. Far greater map variety than pretty much any of the other games in the series and it was one of the only ones that let you control naval vessels. I can't think what needs changing other than the graphics.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein - One of my favourite FPS of all time, the Quake 3 engine was just fantastic. Great weapons, great maps so easy to just jump in and play. I think the gameplay probably still holds up today.

Star Trek: Birth of the Federation - Essentially Master of Orion 2 but Star Trek, let down slightly by a memory leak problem and some really bad AI, the memory leak got sorted by modders so really just the AI, some updated graphics and I guess a few new races would be nice. I do love a good turn based strategy and us Star Trek fans desperately need some games.

Ooh. That sounds like something I would really enjoy. Based on it's history can't see this game ever getting a remake though unfortunately.

Of the top of my head for me would be:

Deus Ex
Mass Effect
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Dino Crisis
Star Trek: Bridge Commander

I am sure there are a lot more but those are what come to mind for now.

Oh yeah no chance of a BOTF remaster but I'd still love one, for me it edged out Bridge Commander but I'd like to see that too, newer graphics and more multiplayer options.

Deus Ex would be cool. I know it's a completely different style but I really enjoyed was it Human Revolution (the first of the new two?).

OTTOMH...

Unreal
Severance: Blade of Darkness
Thief series (1-3)
Fear series (main game and two expansions)
Deus Ex
Morrowind

I thought System Shock 2 was getting a facelift of sorts, or maybe that was cancelled.

Out of interest for Morrowind would you just want graphical updates or is there anything from Oblivion and Skyrim you'd want to see in terms of gameplay changes?

UT99. I want it like-for-like. Just updated graphics and models. I want the gameplay to remain the same, I want all the voices to remain the same, the same ease of creating/finding custom maps, server browser etc.

Edited as made a fool of myself. Really struggling to remember one UT from another. I think for me my highpoint came very early 2000s for UT.

Used to play LAN at school.

Freelancer, game is still brilliant but deserves an Unreal Engine make over!
YES!!! How did I forget about this gem? Aside from more graphics I suppose the only other changes I'd like to see is a few little extras to make the universe feel a bit more alive after you finish the main story. Perhaps some proper modding resources to allow for easier mod creation.

Loved this game. Don't think I ever suffered from the memory leak, but I think there were different versions of the game because IIRC the version I have didn't play well with mods, however on some of the mod sites they would look a full iso which worked fine with it. Probably still around on the sites, I think it's now listed as abandonware if you want to have a look @TNA.
I remember throwing fleets of federation ships at the Borg, only to then try the romulans and see the difference. I think I also modded in a defiant cloak, because it needed even more power

I do still own the game but I think it took a lot of effort and a few mods to get to work on Windows 10 and even then I think it was pretty unstable sadly.

Reactions: TNA
Duke Nukem
Theme Park or Theme Park World

If you haven't already you might want to check out a game called Parkitect. It's got a lot more complexity to it to Theme Park but if you're looking for a more simplistic game you can still play it that way without going into the crazy building detail that it allows.

isn't this basically a "which old games did you really like?" thread?

Kind of but not quite. It's more intended to be about older games where you feel the gameplay still holds up to this day but would still require some changes and what those changes would be.

So for example I loved Morrowind but I don't think I'd enjoy the same gameplay now so it's not on my list, it's still a fantastic game I'm not taking anything away from it but now I think I'd find it far too clunky.

Did just think of another case for this topic and we have had a few good examples. Game series where the newer games aren't as good as the older ones such as Medal of Honour and Battlefield.

PIcking on Battlefield especially, 1942 was my favourite by far, not to say I haven't played I think every game since and enjoyed most of them but the latest game (admittedly only played the beta and then a few hours at launch) was one of the worst shooter experiences I've ever had. Besides graphics I honestly can't think of anything the latest game does better than 1942 did.

Going console here but G-Police and Colony Wars from the PS1.

G-Police but with the city domes the the size and detail of something like GTA V or Watch Dogs 2. Yes please!

Colony Wars. There doesn't seem to be many 'good old fashioned' space dogfighting games these days. The gameplay from what I recall was really solid. Maybe just make the campaign more dynamic so it felt like you are part of a real and greater conflict.

Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. I know it got a sequel but it was a bit too over the top for my liking. Could obviously benefit from some modern graphics, maybe throw in some co-op for a bit of fun.
