What codecs to play vid files on 360

Testing on WinXP + TVERSITY, and also soon-to-expire version of VISTA+Media center, I've got the FFDSHOW codecs installed but I can't play AVI or HD material on the 360. Format is not recognised. I can convert HF files from TS to the microsoft format, but I've been told I don't need to.

Any advice on what codec packs would work?

Yeah, that's the thing. I'm trying to sort out the codecs. Any suggestions on suitable codec packs?
