many thanks for the replies
fingers crossed its there
as my tax expires on sunday
and supposedly it being in the post isnt a valid excuse even tho you have proof you have paid

how big an envelope was it
a5 or the 1/3 A4 ???

Didnt you print out reciept?

If so just spam it to your car window till you get it

so not overly worried...
things like this just irritate me
if i come back and see car being towed to the crusher then id be a bit bothered

Comes in a DL size white envelope 110x220. No DVLA markings on the envelope, but there should be a return postcode on the back: SA31 2ET and a Swansea 7 postmark on the front.

Are you sure about that? I'm sure I've read somewhere that you have until the middle of the month to get a new disc. I've had a tax disc go missing in the post before and was told that it was ok because it was on the system that I had paid.

I've never worried about going a bit over (up to a month once) but I should think you'll be OK by a handful of days.

Still get you for failure to display regardless!

I was 6 weeks over on one of mine this time round, I taxed one and got mixed up so was driving my other car without tax. Not a peep out of the DVLA I simply applied online the following month and it was sent out. They did however charge me the period that I had not paid for.

Oh and yea and as others have said its a white envelope with a dvla stamp on it... you can't miss it.

With the online/phone tax discs you have IIRC 5 days grace after the start of the month to allow for them getting delayed in the post (IE as long as you've ordered it before the end of the month, you've got 5 days after the end of the old disc).

However I think that's with the DVLA officers etc, the police don't have to give it but usually will (the offence isn't not being taxed, but not displaying - so the police would likely check that it's taxed online and give you a producer at most).
