Hi

My main usage for my computer is editing video. At the moment I'm only editing 5D3 footage (1080p) and my computer is performing OK but want it to be faster and would also be nice to future proof it to be able to edit 4k!

I plan to change a few components then do a fresh install of windows!

Here's my current spec:

Intel i7 2600k @ 3.8GHz
Corsair Vengeance 16gb @ 1.5V
Radeon HD5770
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3
Corsair HX520
120GB SSD
2x 64GB SSD
3TB/500GB/500GB HDD

What is letting my computer down? I'm guessing the graphics card is the weakest point? If this was changed, would I then need a better power supply?

Advise please!

A GPU with more ommph would be good, many video editing programs use either CUDA or openGL to accelerate the workload.

You PSU should still be fine with say a 280X or 970

Depends a lot on the software you're using and how you're using it. In any case, you have a pretty powerful CPU so I'd suggest getting some fast storage since this will really improve responsiveness when chopping around.

If you love filters/effects though you'll want to upgrade the GPU, if the software can use it. This can also help with rendering times.

Yeah I'm using Premiere Pro, and I do grade all my footage and notice actually that as soon as I grade it, I have to render out the footage to watch it full res without it skipping frames!

If the programs you use utilize GPU horsepower then I would get a GTX970 and be done with it :)

Nice and simple.

970 looks a good shout then! Reminds me of my old 8800GTX I had years ago, was a top dog back in the day!

Will research into if Premiere utilizes GPU!

Thanks
