what conection to use

I just placed a order for BenQ XL2420T rev2.0 24" TRUE 144Hz 3D Vision 2.0 Widescreen LED Monitor

but am a bit confused what connection is best to use
DVI-DL or HDMI to make use of the great monitor

Stick with DVI.

Only real benefit of HDMI is for sound support if required.

Few peeps starting to go down the Displayport route, simply so you don't have to keep unscrewing the cable haha

DVI-D has a higher resolution support. However as you're not going above that resolution, it doesn't matter either way.
