What connector is this?

I think its normal for optical drives, looks like you'll need an adaptor if you wish to use it in a standard PC

Juding by the number of pins as well id hazard a guess at it being an IDE drive

Its a laptop style connector, google a laptop to desktop SATA converter.

Pretty sure its not IDE as those have sticking out pins.

That looks like a slimline 50-pin IDE socket. OCUK sell a USB external enclosure for these types of drive, or your local electronics shop may have a converter for internal use.

after further investigation, it is definitely not a slimline sata, as these still have the L-shape in the plug to prevent connecting the wrong way round. so it is definitely IDE
