Not sure if this is the right forum, but Im trying to work out which connectors I need. I have a 360 with VGA cable. The vga cable has two male (red and white) phono connectors.

I have my speakers which have a 3.5mm male jack. Problem is, I want to use them for both my pc and xbox. What cables would I need to get to connect this all up?

EDIT: Removed Hotlinked pictures, please see proper post further down - rp2000

First picture plugs into your speakers. The other 2 bits plug into there, with one end going to your PC, and the other end connecting to the female RCA plugs from your 360 cable. There is no fancy sound splitting going on, so if both devices are transmitting sound you will hear a mess.

There is loads of ways you can do this, this is only one simple, very cheap solution. (Each of those cables is probably about 3 quid max).

You can probably get a very cheap passive phono switcher as well, but that would cost a few quid more and need a couple more cables etc.

Is the 3.5mm male jack just a headphone socket or an actual input device?

You tend to use red/white phone inputs for stereo's..

Hmm just trying to work out the product codes at the large electronics shop... cant find the first cable though

Would that little phono switcher work with the PS3?

I currently have the VGA cable from my 360 plugged into the line-in on my PC and then piped out to a set of 2.1 speakers.

Currently looking at getting a PS3 but the sound is my biggest worry.

PS3 would work in the same way yeah.

Thanks very much :)

Maybe completely off-topic, and please wrap me over the knuckles if it is, but if I use the HDMI cable for the PS3....where would I get the sound from?

The HDMI cable will obviously go into the LCD, but since I've never seen the PS3's rear, I have no idea where I'd get the audio phono jacks from!

The PS3 has two outputs, so one HDMI, the other is component/composit.

I use HDMI for picture and composit (red and white) for sound.

ok first way ive looked at is with the switcher...

excellent, thanks. Think im gonna go with the cheaper way. I can just mute the pc from my keyboard. Wont get any quality loss will I?

Thanks so much for your help :)

Thanks rp2000. Got option 1, but when I set it up, the xbox was very very quiet. So I've taken it back and got option 2. Will see what thats like later :)

OK,

I use a variation of OPTION 2 (same phono box) to connect my MacMini and 360 on the same audio input on the TV. Both have equal sound volume.
