What cooler fits?

Hi,

What air CPU cooler would be best for a Thermaltake Lanbox build?

Should be mounting it on a DFI Lanparty JR, if only really for the UV reactive parts. :p

I was thinking Zalman CPNS 8000 as it looks rather compact, and shouldn't have space issues.

Just looking at the board there now though I notice it has the NB Heatpipe and fins mounted at the back of the board, and this will be handily right by the TTake Lanbox's exhaust ports. So it got me thinking that maybe I should look for a CPU cooler that intakes from the front of the case, and blows rearward, so that the air is flowing over the heatpipe fins and out the exhaust port, as opposed to Zalmans 360 degree method.

I just don't know what space I've got to play with here underneath the PSU. Does anyone know? Can anyone reccommend a cooler that will fit?

From looking at the Lanbox, i'd personally not recommend that cooler.

I had it for my Sugo SG01 and SG03 builds, and the problem it has is that it draws air in the opposite direction to the PSU, which causes a nice pocket of negative pressure between the two, and only increases temperatures.

I can't tell what size you have to work with for the cooler in the Lanbox, making it hard to recommend one. Have you considered the other cases in the mATX range like the Sugo SG01, SG03, and Lian-Li V350?

The V350 in particular can fit a Scythe Mini-Ninja. I have one in mine, and my 3.6GHz E8400 idles at 40C. Can't complain about that.

The SG01 I'd consider. The Lian-Li has the Optical drives in the wrong place, and the SGO3....well, I'm not sure what to make of it. Besides, I'll probably need 2 x 5.25" externals.

The Scythe Mini-Ninja is a top cooler, as is the Silverstone NT-06 Lite. Basically, Tute has been there, done that with mATX and I'd go with one of his suggestions anyday ie. SG-01.

If you need 2 optical drives then it's quite possible to fit 2 slot-loading drives in a single 5.25" drive bay. I had 3 slot-loaders, a floppy and a card reader in my SG-01. Some people just have to max things out:rolleyes:

Don't get me wrong - there's nothing really wrong with the Lanbox, it's just that other cases do what it does better, and personally I think it's a case of form over function.

If you go for the SG01, then i'd get the NT-06 Lite. It uses the PSU fan to move air over the fins, and whilst it sounds silly, it works very well, better than just about every other cooler that fits the Sugo.
