Hello

Just buying some second hand bits at the moment, and need to get a cooling solution for an Opteron chip on a DFI Lanparty UT SLI-DR. I will also be buying some Arctic Silver 5 to go with this, unless someone can recommend otherwise.

Cheers

AS5 is about as good as you can get as far as TIM goes.

As for a CPU cooler, I would suggest either: Arctic Freezer 64 pro, Tuniq Tower 120 or the Scythe Ninja.

Lol I feel so far behind. I'm only just moving on from socket a! By the time I get to AM2, you lot will probably be on the next big thing after 775 :o

Don't forget the thermalright Ultra 120 which is actually a little better than the ninja (although you'll require your own fan).

Just remember, don't be tempted by what everyone else has, don't upgrade for the sake of it, upgrade if you need to. :) I've managed to resist the temptation myself this year because i realised i don't actually need an upgrade.

Yep that's sage advice there. Well I managed to hold out for 4 years I think, just upgrading minor items.

But these days I find myself wanting to play games like Oblivion and Rome and probably Medieval 2, and get quite dismayed at how they run.

Will probably upgrade again when C2D stuff and DX10 kit becomes more reasonable... but yea, I'll wait and see if it's really neccessary first.
