I need to replace my Scythe Mugen/Infinity as one push pin is broken and it's just not making good contact with my CPU.

I've spotted the following coolers as being used a lot here but which would be the absolute best? I want one with a 775 backplate and no scythe pushpins ;)

- Tuniq Tower 120 (Has a backplate?)
- Thermalright 120 Extreme
- Zalman 9700

Or are there any others that are cheaper that will perform just AS GOOD?

Have a E4400 @ 3.3Ghz right now, planning to do more.

Regards!

tuniq tower get my vote, gets recommended for cooling overclocked quad, so it should handle your dual core with little problem.

Thanks for your reply, I myself was thinking about the tuniq aswell... I've just ordered one :) Hope I'll receive it quick!

TT for me:)

it has a backplate, and it secures strong to the board and on top of the cpu
cpu and system overclocked (69% from stock) CPU Vcore at 1.420 in bios
full load and a "warm" room here

Wow nice clocks :) I hope I'll get mine on 3600 stable. It's booting but @ that but the temps are just crazy at the moment with this freakin' Scythe Mugen and its broken pushpins... one time it's at 30 idle, next thing I know it's at 50 idle, and load somtimes 60 somtimes 70 somtimes it just goes up to 80 / 90... Can't be good :)

I feel like I've made the right choice in purchasing the Tuniq Tower, should be good with the backplate. Thanks for all the input so far guys!

I still have one question, I use Arctic MX-2. What is the best way to apply it, the pdf on the site says just in the middle of the cpu a bit and I've seen people say a line across on this forum, has anyone tested what works best? Also do I need to apply some on the heathsink?

edit: lol greebo :D (K)

Just remember when your tuniq arrives don't remove the plastic covering the sticky pad on the back plate, this way when you have to take it off later it won't be stuck hard to your motherboard.

TRUE is the best performer.

But value for money the TT is hard to beat, its only a couple of degrees off the TRUE and considerably cheaper.

I forgot to mention that I have the fan of TT atached to a fan controller ( Revoltec 5 1/2 bay) and I use it day by day at minimum speed - I just put the full speed when benchmarking or something like that

at full speed the TT fan is loud ( unless your are gaming or listening music,in that case no problem)
but surfing the net ,i want silence, and with the fan at minimun it´s inaudible above all the others fans that i have in my case:)

and ,at minimum fan speed and with cpu idlling i get this temps:

Arctic MX-2 I did different ways when I built my C2D in Jan 08. And found they all gave the same temps.

I did the thin layer, the AS5 strip and the same temps maybe 1c but nothing say this way is best.
