last week i bought some new parts from the website but when i put them together the pc would turn on & the fans spin up but there is no signal to the monitor  i tried it on 2 lcd's and my old crt but its always the same :(

i called ocuk and was told that it could be a faulty motherboard so i sent it back to them but they have tested it out and couldnt find a problem with it so now its on its way back to me

here is the system

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 (at a minimum of 3gig)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT 512MB
SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8000C5 1000MHz ReaperX
Abit IP35
Corsair HX 620W Psu
120gig Maxtor SATA
300gig Maxtor SATA

i tried with just one stick of memory inserted but it didnt help & i know its not a problem with the graphics card because its in the pc im using to post this message

might be the CPU or PSU, i'm lucky enough to have a cupboard full of stuff to test so i cantry different bits and bobs to rule out the problem

It could be several things.

It could be that it the motherboard is shorting against the case. Try the whole thing out on a non conductive surface with just one stick of ram.

Make sure that both power plugs (the 24 pin one AND the 4 or 8 pin) are plugged in to the board. Be sure that the power to the graphics card is also plugged in as well.

Swap the memory sticks over (try both of them alternating) in different slots.

It could also be that the memory you have requires more voltage than default - try a different stick of ram if possible.

Try reseating the CPU - it could also help if you clear CMOS too.

wouldnt it still have monitor signal tho if the cpu was faulty?
not nowadays, the system wont do anything with a dodgy cpu, i had a similar issue with a E6300 where it just wouldnt cold boot and took about 30 mins to get going, i must say i least susptected the CPU as they dont fail often

thanks for the tips guys, i just did some searching and it seems that this memory has problems with the ip35 :(

am i right in thinking that the memory was the cause of my problems? would that cause a lack of signal?

I had the same kind of issue - have you tried resetting the CMOS with the jumpers, removing the battery, reseating the jumpers and reinstalling the battery?

- Try reseating the GFX card, maybe it's just not making good enough contact in the pci-e slot due to your case or something, I've had that before. (btw have you put in the power plug in the back of the GFX card? :P)
- CMOS reset
- Get some ram from a friend and try that
- Try another PSU and boot with minimum components on the motherboard
- Try another GFX card on your motherboard

thanks for the advice, another graphics card is out of the question as i dont know anybody with a pcie card :p same goes for ram but im sure that both sticks cant be bad so ill just have to try them in different slots and try the board out of the case
