What could have caused this damage ?

Just had two brand new 500GB sata disks fail the drive fitness tests badly with loads of bad sectors.

The packaging was OK with no signs of damage so I don't think it was caused by transit ?

Dropped in warehouse perhaps ?

Bit of a pain as the server raid rebuild was planned for tonight

Bad batch... or perhaps a wake up call to a bad cable or other bad hardware on your side.

It would certainly give me pause! Check you current rig with known good hardware from another. See if you can replicate the problem.

Checked the disks with the DFT software on two machines with different SATA cables as my first thought was two dodgy disks out of the boxes was strange.

Same faults on both machines.

I've had similar problems with hard drives breaking on me, i just put it down to bad luck, but do you really think a bad cable could be cauing them to become faulty?
