Hi.
Ive managed to get my hands on an old Intel socket370 mobo and a 1.1Ghz P3 processor. I plan to put around 512Mb memory in it.
Asuming that it works properly, what sort of tasks could i have it doing?

It has onboard LAN, AGP, onboard video, sound and the usual stuff.
I was thinking of putting Linux on it and have it functioning as a headless download machine for torrents, but that sort of seems a waste of its capibilites really.

Any other ideas?

It would make a perfectly servicable machine for Internet browsing or light office work. It would be suitable for children if you equip it with a window manager.

If in doubt, m0n0wall it. Several months ago now I had a spare P3, 800mhz with 256mB RAM. I ditched my old router and started using m0n0wall, and haven't looked back since.

:p

Hope this helps, null :)

Its gonna be a file server/download machine at the very least.
I was thinking along the lines of prehaps a IMAP server (as discussed in another thread).

One option could be to turn it into a small media pc like i just did with my spare pc xp2900+ , 512mb ram, 250gig hd, Hiper MPC chassis, :D

I was toying with the idea of storing all my music on it, and have iTunes on my PC remotely access the music over the network to that.
