Exactly what I was thinking, someone thought I had an M5 because I had the M sills.
I've had people ask if mine is an M5 as well. It's embarrasing to say 'No, I couldnt afford to insure one of those'

"I can't see it and I have no experience of it, so it must be made up rubbish."Sounds like rubbish, unless all of the people he has meetings with are car nuts which is very unlikely.
You're more likely to find the Bently Conti GT than the Phaeton with which it shares many parts as they have sold rather more of them.
<offtopic>A philosphical point, not a pragmatic one.</offtopic>I turn up to a meeting in my RS4 or GT3 and I often get a different attitude to when I turn up in my wifes S-Line. As a person or individual to deal with I am no different, therefore the person forming their view of me based on the metric of 'suit', 'watch', '£800 bag' or 'car' is flawed based on that case. Marketing is simply the management of image and perception of brand. I used to run a European PS business (and I know you offer such services), I am well aware of how important brand and image is, but look below the skin and you will often see its smoke and mirrors which is why using such criteria is often flawed.
Who likes the quiet life? Also, a 20K 996 is asking for trouble, though if you are lucky a very solid call.
Big advantage of the 7-series over the S from a maintenance POV is the fact that you can buy them with sprung suspension. The only part of my car which is giving me real issues is lack of pressure in the airmatic system (air leaks from the struts which are nearing 100k miles) and im losing my patience with it fast! The struts are £750 each part only too from GSF, so thats a £2000 job to get the rear pair replaced, and thats before i think about doing the fronts.
maz - what was that car you got to replace your TVR then?![]()
OP - why is auto so important if you are spending so much time cruising on the motorway? with a decent engine under the bonnet these cars will still pull well enough in top gear.
E39 M5 - you dont really need 1st gear, 2nd gear, even 3rd, is adequate for pulling away in. once you are on the motorway leave it in 5th or 6th.
just a thought.![]()
I am talking about people who are making the call on spending millions with your company, something I suggest very few people on this forum have any experience of. Don't put to much focus onto peoples ability to make a call on the difference between an RS4 and and S-Line, it was used as an example not as a case study to be analysed.
Ouch! A frightening purchase but what way to blow the cash!£20k would get you a pretty tidy Turbo R, awesome motorway cruiser that'd be. You should have enough change left to get new wiper blades and valve caps and stuff. Fuel might be a bit of an issue but I'm sure at a steady cruise you'd get 10mpg or so.
Got to be a 2003-2004 XJR as suggested by others.
£20k for a 4 year old luxury saloon that does 0-60 in 5 secs despite an autobox, is reliable, smooth, comfortable and has an awesome interior.
