I was downloading a a file earlier from Fileplanet and the computer froze. The only thing I could do was reset it. On reset the boot process was stuck at "Detecting array..." (I used raid). I reset the machine again and this time it booted to windows but immediatly froze, I reset again and this time stuck on "Detecting array...".. after that it would not boot.

I took the side of the case of and turned off the PSU, when I turned the PSU back on it appeared that the CPU fan was trying to turn, it was actually rocking forward and back as if it didn't have enough power to turn, there was no more life and the machine would not turn on as such.

My guess would be the PSU or maybe motherboard but have no idea.

Any suggestions? and worse come to worse can I get the data off the raid 0 drive's in any way.. it would be a nightmare if I couldn't :(

Cheers

Sure, just copy data from your backup.

Motherboard looks likely. Also possible is a dead hard drive, though I'm confused as to your cpu fan. It's definitely not spinning up? Could be a broken fan causing thermal shutdown if so.
Do you have another psu you could try the system with? Plugging a 3 pin fan into the cpu header and seeing if it spins up on boot is also good, dont run the computer for more than a dozen seconds or so with the cpu fan unplugged though.

If youve done the raid through the motherboard controller you're in trouble. Connecting the drives to a motherboard with the same southbridge might work, but isn't certain to. If the raid is software you'll be fine, if its on a pci card then you can plug the card into a different machine and again youll be fine

Thanks guys.. I think I have a PSU in the office so I'll go down there later to look.

The CPU fan was moving but it was going forward a little and rocking back, like it was trying to turn just didn't have the energy.

I'm not sure which way the Raid was done, the machine is a few years old and bought from OcUK pre-installed etc. I know it's using the motherboard connectors as opposed to a seperate card, but my knowledge of Raid setups is nil :(

I can't even remember what MB it is, an Asus 8N-Sli rings a bell.
