What could this sound be from?

Just went to see my mechanic and took it round for a spin. It is the wheel bearing, booked in. I asked how much to replace and was quoted around £200.

I’d say that’s on the high side price wise, but, it’s an accurate diagnosis at least- plenty would try to make it far worse and more expensive still! - personally, knowing the fault I’d be getting a few more quotes to give yourself a ballpark price but, in the grand scheme of things, £200 isn’t going to break most banks…..

It was £240 in total. Apparently it was quite a job, showed me part of the bearing and it was scuffed a bit.

The thing is with that garage is that it's a 15 minute walk from home, so I don't have to wait around or get a taxi or whatever. The guy who runs it is a customer of mine. He gets another mechanic to do most jobs like that though.

It's alright now, relieved to have it sounding back to normal, nice and quiet.

When I took the car to ATS on Wednesday they did wheel tracking and wheel balancing on all 4 wheels.

Drove the car on Thursday and it was fine, apart from the wheel bearing noise.

Had the wheel bearing replaced on Friday and now the steering wheel is shaking when 60mph+

Take it back to the garage who fitted the bearing

Did so this morning, he said it could be a balancing problem. I told him all 4 wheels had been balanced. He showed me the front wheel weights where ATS had washed the wheel and could see they were new weights, and showed me the rear wheel which hadn't been washed so said they hadn't been balanaced... he swapped the front driver wheel (which had the bearing done) for the rear. I took it for a drive and it's still doing it. So I've got it booked in tomorrow for the garage to look at.
