Hey all
just a quick one...
I have new Asus mobo with 990x on it...I have 8GB 2000MHz RAM and 965BE...

Am new to UEFI BIOS and still learning it but it seems that I am unable to run this ram above 1600 with CPU at stock...
I know that MOBO can run 1866 with no o/c and 2133 with overclock...

so am I right that it is due to CPU and its mem controller I am unable to run it faster ?
would change of CPU help ?
Thanks

Phenom ii mem controller is optimized for 1600, or 1333,

Llano prefers 1866+ but thats socket FM1

think only bulldozer would use ram rated for those speeds tbh :)

so LLano is out of the question :) and need to do research in to bulldozer....

But the performance between your current 965 and Bulldozer is almost nothing. It's not worth the money. Just downclock the RAM to 1600mhz, you won't see any performance hit anyway.

I know :(

I would come out better selling this RAM and get something slower and cheaper ;)

The 965 runs at 3.4GHz or 17x 200MHz at stock. At 1600MHz ram setting it will be using an 8x (200) multiplier.

If you raise the bus clock to 250Mhz from 200MHz, you will get your 2000Mhz on the ram.

To keep the near stock CPU speed with a 250Mhz bus clock you would need to use a 14x multi rather than a 17x this would give 3.5GHz, a small overclock. Or you could try 15x to get 3.75GHz or 16x to get 4GHz.

You should also find that the HT and NB willl be running at 2500MHz rather than 2000MHz stock, this should not be an issue but you could reduce these back near to stock with the relevant multipliers in the bios.

maybe will give it a go over the weekend.thx
