I have a G4560 at the moment but I need a better CPU. I'm not sure which one to go for, it has to be 1151. Any suggestions? I don't really want to pay more than £150 ish

i5 7600k - £140 in members market, p&p included.

Edit: apologies looks like it was an old thread dragged up. Probably sold - but gives you an idea that second hand is worth considering.

@Drake5 although, the seller is online right now, might be worth @ him - may get lucky...

Ryzen 1600x/2600x
keep the ram from you system and sell you board and CPU to buy an AM4 board
DAW usage is one of the few areas where Ryzen still gets trounced by Intel but only with certain software such as Kontakt
I looked into it a year ago and as I use Kontakt a lot and wanted an iGPU the i5-8400 was clearly the best option and value for my budget.
Be interesting to see if Zen 2 closes the gap significantly and fingers crossed that it does.

No, he's correct. No sales, offers or price matching outside of the Members Market. It's black and white.
Thats right. I haven't tried to sell outside the members market.... I was talking about putting it on the members market in the future. clearly. All I said was "I'll be selling" lol.

This post highlights your lack of knowledge in the music production arena. Do some research before posting.

i do apologize, My brother a DJ(real one not a 14 year old tractor user) as just offloaded his i5 if favor of an 2700x
he find's when running Ableton and Logic Pro and linking into his CDJ's that the extra cores help the system deal with load spikes, he used an overclocked i5 but found there to be lag ever now and then, but now as no problems.

Mr easyrider what area of music production do you have experience in?

if @Drake5 would like i can pass over a phone number so he can talk to my brother and get his point of view.

A lot depends on what type of music you're doing, i.e, how complex? How many audio tracks, many VSTs/effects etc.

I've just gone from a core2 Q9550 to an i7 8700k. To say it's a nice upgrade is an understatement but for some simple midi, a few audio effects and a couple of VSTs and a few instruments in Kontakt the core2 was actually doing ok. I ran out of RAM and also snuck in an RTX2060 :)

Just get the best Intel you can afford with the most cores.
