What cpu should I choose?

I am looking for advice on what cpu would be best before my particular needs.

I am not looking to play games, but I need the system to handle 3d photogrammetry software ( so lots of ram) as well as 3d cad applications and in the near future to handle 4k video editing.

I am thinking about a thread ripper system or perhaps something using a epyc cpu.

Does anybody here have a similar work load that could offer advice?
Thanks

Intel are apparently releasing a 5GHz 28-core CPU end of the year, you could wait for that :p

Seriously though, unless you have more money than God to burn, Threadripper is the way to go. Hold off a little if you can because of the 32 core refresh coming, as @AiiR said. There will probably be a revised X399 (X499?) motherboard coming too to handle those cores, I don't think it's been confirmed that the existing X399 can handle it, even though it would be compatible.
