What CPU should I get for a Gigabyte 965P DS4

I currently have an E6300 1.86GHz plugged into my rev.1 965P DS4. I can get rid of this CPU for another useful cause - what is the best cpu I can get, given the 800 fsb of this board (and my OCZ RAM)? Would the 1066fsb cpu's be wasted on it?

I forgot to say, the current 1.86ghz cpu is clocked to 2.8 and I want a replacement one that I can clock as far as possible too. Does this change things?

Hi

I just got an E2180 and so far i have had it run at 2.8ghz on stock voltage and i think i can reach 3ghz before upping voltage. Not bad for £55 i say!

The P965 motherboards seem to clock Quads extremely well. The P35 boards run a bit cooler, but the overclocks are about the same. Get a Q6600 - you know you want to. And the resale will be significantly higher too.

buy a cheap dual core and overclock it, then when the new quads are out in jan/feb upgrade

What I did, was going to get a Q6600, but would have cost me a good £120 to upgrade from my 6300...

So instead I sold my 6300, bunged £20 on top and got a 6600 to tide me over, with the £100 I saved I sold my GTS and upgraded to a GTX :D

This may not be good advice as the older revisions of the 965P-DS4 don't support 1133MHz FSB. There's also no guarantee that there'll be a new BIOS to support Penryn CPUs.

Right so I've got it up and running, spent 20-30 minutes just getting a stable setting. It's at 9x330 giving me 2.97GHz, and I've also bought some of that Crucial Ballistix PC-8500 stuff since I had to buy memory anyway and it seems well thought of. What should I be aiming for here? Give me some guidelines as to CPU bus and memory divider, I don't have much of an idea as to what the memory divider should be set at. At the minute if I ask 340+mhz fsb it doesn't boot which isn't too nice.
Also, I'm running a Zalman cnps9700-LED and a few fans and everything is turned down very quietly, and I'm putting preference over quietness than getting outright speed. But I know I should be able to get a bit more :)
