What CPU should I invest in?

First of all, thank you in advance for the help.

I just bought a 8800GT to hold me until the 9800 comes out next year but I was considering also buying a new quad CPU.

A friend of mine is telling to buy the Q6600 and overclock it to 3.0, but that would mean I'd have to get a new motherboard as well.

Seeing as I'll be switching the graphics card as soon as the 9800 comes out... what should I get?

My current setup: (which isn't even PCI-E 2.0):

2,00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
3040 Megabytes Installed Memory
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
hp L2335 (23' wide monitor)

Would this CPU hold me after getting the 9800 next year? And what would be a good motherboard for the 8800GT and later the 9800 ? (will probably never use SLI btw)?

At 2ghz it might but you can probably overclock that to 2.4 or something

If you're wanting to stick with us few AMD users then I'd recommend the 6000+ which will overclock quite nicely too.

New RAM too dont forget, but thats cheap enough these days.
