What cpu to go with upgrade?

Upgrading to a 5850 on my gigabyte ds3p, corsair 520W hx psu, [email protected]. Thinking about changing the cpu to an E8xxx to get the most out of the gpu. Is it A) worth it? and B) which is the best value E8xxx chip to go for?

The E8400 is the best value cpu of the E8000 range. The E8600 is a complete and utter rip off. For a comparison see my thread here where E2000/4000/5000/6000/8000 series cpu's are benched at varying speeds. Bear in mind that even though yours is a E6000 series, it only has half the cache of the E6600 so will be a little slower.

The best upgrade would be a quad.
