HI well it seems my Q6600 is about had it, I can't RMA without the packaging in came in so I have to do this.

what CPU would you get for £250? for gaming and multimedia use, and please state the cooler cos i need a new cooler to, I know that part could be put into a new therad in the section, but I might as well include it to this one.

No my cooler price is not inc in the CPU budget but I m only willing to pay £40 max for that :|

thanks.

Q6600 and a tuniq or another decent cooler.

no point buying a Q9550 unless you want to willy wave, in which case you could get a Q6600 and watercooling for 250 quid and willy wave away :)

Made my choice, it was a 920 and I already had the watreblock from the 775, just added a new mounting plate. Bought the 920 for £230 and the plate for £3.25. Works for me.

Don't think people realised you were going 1366! Hope it works well for you, let us know how it clocks and maybe post some pics if you have a nice setup.

Me too as well, 920 has the best bang for buck ratio out of almost any CPU bad thing only is the new equipment that you HAVE to buy e.g. motherboard and RAM.

I would go I7 but I have a 2 week old rampage formular and new DDR2 ram >_> but if there was a decent £200 mobo for I7 at the time than I would have:P but than I would need vista 64>_> -.- cos of the triple channal mem loss on me lol

If you have vista 32 your licence can be used for 64 too I think. It certainly works with the OEM.

I don't have experience of the new 45nm Q8550/9650s but I recently got a Q6600 and had a VID of 1.3, and I'm forcing 1.5 voltas to get it stable at 3.6 Ghz. And for some reason is highly unstable between 1400-1600 fsb. Maybe the 790i ultra chipset.

"What CPU would YOU buy?"

AMD Phenom X4 II 940 (3.0GHz), no question.

I agree with you, there. But I cba to buy another mobo and waste this ramapage, if I was building a new computer through it would be it at the moment.

so in this case the intel CPUs win, but thanks for your personal option

okay q9550 it is, with what cooler reminds a mystry :P

one question how can a core 2 be classed as a upgrade from my Q6600 ? its technicly slower if you think about it (less cores)

okay that cooler it is, ermm does it need a fan? to be effective, cos in my case it got no fan blowing through the fins, the rear fan is a sucking air out, and it a pain to get off with out nocking the mounting off.

as for the core 2 duos and qaud core fights, I would have to see which will benifit, I heard the E8600 is VERY fast. but I will take a look at reviews, if there are any.
