What CPU would you recommend?

I have not changed my rig for a while now and think it would be a good idea!

My rig is as per sig, and I am looking to move to a quad and a couple of 1TB HD's. (Maybe a new gfx card if I can push it with the wife!)

I mainly use it for gaming, with some DVD/Music encoding, so my question is what would be the CPU in peoples opinion.

I was thinking Q6600 for £120 (I dont pay VAT ;) )
Or would you recommend a few extra pounds and go with a Q9300?

Cheers guys

Moving to a q6600 might be a bit of a sidestep - with the newer, higher VID chips, you're not guaranteed much over 3.2Ghz, and if you get unlucky then you'll have gone from a 3.4 C2D to a 3.2 C2Q - definitely not a £120 worthy upgrade imo! Do you really need a quad?

id say keep the cpu u have.

ud be better off with a new card, but even then id keep the gtx for now.

if it was me, id keep the money until better graphics cards come out unless you are fine with a gtx 260+ or gtx 280

If you really want to go Quad Core and you intend to overclock then its gotta be a 45nm Yorkfield Chip!

Should be a few popping up for sale in the Members market now that i7 fever is slowly taking hold! :D
