Hi people
im in need of some help, i am stumped on what CPU to get, my spec is below can you please provide me with the best cpu you think would suit it.
Asus maximus II Formula
XFX 8800 GT alpha dog edition (2 of these going to be i think its sli or crossfire lol)
ocz gold edition 8gb ( 4 * 2gb)

all im in need of for now is a CPU, ive been looking at the core2quad q6600 and the Core2Extreme QX6700.

Please Help

You can forget about SLI on that board it has an Intel chipset.
Put 2 NV cards in it if you like but they wont run SLI.

guess i wont be sli then, o well saves a bit of money, or do you think it would be better getting a different graphics card altogether? if so which one? ive been looking at the XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870
Thats for the link to the 6700 i think i may get that, another thing is it god for o'clocking?

What's your upper budget? These days you may want to consider going i7 if your budget can bear it. I say this because all the x58 boards are good, the chips at stock are very fast (when overclocked its unbeatable) and means you are using current gen tech.

i cant afford i7, i was looking into it but to build a full computer i will cost me around £800 and i cannot afford that, i already have the asus maximus II formula motherboard and the ocz 8gb memory so i may aswell stick with LGA775, around £150 is my budget for the CPU if that helps

Ah, fair enuf. I gotta say that the q6700 is a bargain of a chip, get a decent cooler like a TRUE and you can overclock it past 3.5GHz with that board.

Edit: Removed i7 spec
