Hey, hope everyone is well. I have been pondering this question over dinner tonight. Given how fast cars have become, what metrics do people look for in cars and think "wow thats a fast car". It seems like 0 to 60 in 6 seconds or less was the metric for a long time but imo that is no longer relevant. Most cars on the road today are capable of running 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds, and 0 to 100 in less than 10 seconds with ease.

I personally classify a car as "fast" if it meets the below criteria:
0 to 60mph in 2.9s or less
0 to 100 in 6.5s or less

Any thing slower than the above times I would class as "brisk" rather than fast.

What do you guys think?

who quotes 3.9? its early 4s most places, especially 0-62mph(100kph). unless its an american review with 1ft rollout - so add around 0.3s for a real time.
Car and Driver, yes likely with 1ft rollout. Seems to be some UK reviewers using similar methodology too. Vbox historically logged with 1ft roll out as well.

Comical thread. I love supercars only would I ever buy one - nope.

Firstly who the hell drag races? How many times nowadays, you witness someone in a powerful BMW/Audi blast past and then slam on the anchors as they have overcooked for instance, to exit a dual carriageway?

I'm not sure how super cars come in to this. A RS3 with a few bolt ons can run 2.9s to 60 and 0 to 100 in 6.xxs. The Rs3 is a regular hatch and hardly a super car

It's 2021, the bar has moved. More and more cars are breaking in to the upper 2.XXs range to 60. Under 2.5s 60 is now a good place to be to make use of all situations on the road and be considered "fast"
