I need help. I just go a 3rd screen i wanted to have a 3 screen gaming set up. My Pc only has VGA ports so i went out and brought a splitter but that didnt do what i wanted it to it just mirrored the other screen. Im getting a new g-card: Radeon HD 5830. I was wondering What cable do i need and will that g-card work?
( I dont know much about computers)

A splitter will just mirror the same screen, it splits one signal into two cables, with the same data in each.

What ports does your new card have on it?

Your 5830 will come with 4 ports on the card - 2 x DVI, 1 x HDMI and 1 x Displayport. To use 3 screens one MUST be on the Displayport output. The other two can be DVI/DVI or DVI/HDMI, whichever is easier for you. If one of your three monitors has a Displayport input, use that. Assuming it doesn't you will need:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-250-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1502
to connect the Displayport on the card to the DVI cable for your third monitor. If your 3rd monitor is running higher than 1920x1200, you will need a different adapter than the one I've linked to (you will need a Dual-Link one).

Just to clarify, my Eyefinity setup is running:
Screen 1 - DVI -> DVI,
Screen 2 - DVI -> DVI,
Screen 3 - Displayport -> Single Link Adapter -> DVI
and it works perfectly at 1920x1080 per screen.

Good luck. :)

4 ports, but just to clarify the poster above, one DVI is shared with the HDMI purely for ease of connectivity. You will indeed require an adapter if you do not have displayport monitors.

Ive got it and...

Okay i brought the card and its in my computer but... it only has one dvi port.
witch sucks cuz on the pics and the specs it showed it with 2 so now i think i have to buy a dvi to hdmi adapter witch sucks ¬_¬

If you bought it mail order send it back under DSR and get a card with the connections you want.

i brought it from e-bay i dont think i will be able to do that
and i dont think the dp is working it shows up on the display settings but nothing is showing on the monitor any help?

At the moment we dont know whats wrong so i think i might see if i can return the card and ask about at pc world and such but if any of you know of a card with 2 dvi and 1 dp port under £120 thats you know good that would be epic thanks

and could i get the same 3 screen setup with a nvida card because ive had a nvida card for good part of 6 years now and its never let me down the first time i get a ati it ****s up the video drivers going all the time 1 day after i brought and making my games run slower than a 4 year old card. So yeah is there a good nvida card with 2 dvi and one DP (£120 max)
thank you

Only ATI can give 3 outputs from 1 card.

You did unistall the NVIDIA drivers before installing the ATI ones? Sometimes they conflict.

yes I did but when i was installing the ati drivers i got some errors cant remeber what they were ,ive taken it out now (yay 2 screens again)

are you sure you were actualy sold a 5830? i havn't seen ANY 5830's with 1 dvi, could you post a link or pics? i have a 5830 and i can do 3 screens fine on mine

From the sounds of things it look like you didn't install the drivers correctly. I would get the 5830 I linked before. Make sure you get the drivers off the AMD website. From that picture you can clearly see only one DVI port.

Also remove the link, no competitors allowed ;).

Hi there,

Would you be able to tell us the make and model numbers of the monitors you are running?

You can get eyefinity to work fine with 3 screens and that 5830 card. You will just need a HDMI to DVI adapter like this £3.50 one. Also, if none of your monitors has a displayport input - then this active converter will be required.

Also, pleaser remove the competitor link ASAP before the mods see it - it is against forum rules.
