What did i get wrong?

Ah, is that three monitors with only VGA inputs?

If so, then you are going to have some trouble getting them all to work using one card.

You can use a DVI-I to VGA adapter to hook one up (£5-10), and an active displayport to VGA adapter to hook up the other (~£20). But HDMI to VGA will be more problematic (and expensive).

Ah if all three have VGA then you can get two DVI -> VGA adapters, and you can also use a passive DP->VGA adapter. I'm using one now and it works fine.

Aye, but the problem is that the card the OP has got only comes with 1xDVI-I, 1xHDMI and 1xDP - at least the way I read it.

DVI-I to VGA is simple -as that port carries both an analogue and digital signal - so conversion to VGA is very simple (a passive adapter that rearranges the pins is all that is needed). But when working with a pure digital port like HDMI, you need active digital to analogue conversion to make the signal work on a VGA monitor, which is usually pretty expensive.

That's true. He stated though that he was planning on returning the card. I suggested another 5830 with 2x DVIs and 1xDP.

Aye- I would agree with that. The cheap 5850 has the same problem as the existing 5830 and the XFX 5830 you linked to is a good card, good price, brand new, full 2 year warranty and has the connections the OP needs.

One thing I would suggest to the OP is that 3 screen eyefinity is very demanding when playing modern games (remember the resolution will be 4800x900). With this sort of setup I would usually suggest a card at the level of the £230 HD 6950 for playing games well at this resolution.

I dont mind that i will not be able to play the new games on 3 screens but i want my tf2 and css on 3 and maybe bf:bc2 oh and yeah MINECRAFT :D
so yeah ive got 2 dvi - VGA adapters and one dvi - DP but i dont know if its working i got it off overclockers.co.uk i couldnt get it to work with the card but i dont know il try it with the new one (still choosing)

You will need an dedicated "active Display port to VGA adapter" - to connect a VGA monitor via a displayport output.

Using an active display port to DVI-D adapter, and then a cheap passive DVI-I to VGA adapter to a VGA monitor will not work. This is because the output from the active adapter is a purely digital DVI-D ouput (not DVI-I, which carries both digital and analogue), so connecting a simple VGA adapter will not work - as this adapter does not do any digital to anlogue coversion.

What you need is not available on OCUK, but if you google "displayport active VGA", then you should find what you need pretty quickly.

TF2, CSS and minecraft will not be an issue - but games at the level of BF:BC2 will seriously struggle at that resolution with a HD 5830.
