Good day fine sirs.

Playing a game and pc switches off. Won't POST. 1 long 2 short beeps. Video error. Try removing card, cleaning dust (I clean regularly, but the dust in my apartment is unbelievable), inserting into alternate slot, no dice. Fans don't even spin.

So, safe to assume my rx480 is done for? I'm no expert but the situation looks terminal to me. I don't have the luxury of another computer or card for testing.

Is there any possibility it is the motherboard?

Is this something that could be covered under warranty? My hypothesis is that a dust bunny crawled in and shorted it out, but I can't be sure.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Try removing all RAM then replacing one stick and trying to boot also alternate sticks in case one has died.

Try a BIOS reset.

Also possible the PSU has suffered some kind of failure or a loose connection and can't provide enough power to start everything up.

No ram = no beeps, but still no video output
One stick = still 1 long 2 short beeps indicating video error
Can't reset bios as no video output
