My Father in law got a Canon 400d and it a lovely camera.

I am wondering shall i go for the same model or look at a different one. I like the idea abou it inbuilt sensor cleaner...

Canon 400d
Canon 30d
Nikon D70

are 3 of what i been looking into but dont want to break the bank

Any tips please

Only the 400D has the sensor cleaning amongst the 3 you mention.
IQ between the 3 is supposedly very similar and with the adoption of the AF system from the 30D into the 400D, there's little to chose between the two for real usage. Having said that, the viewfinder is not as nice and it feels like a toy when compared.
Personally I'd be inclined to go with the 400D and spend the savings on higher quality glass.

I Agree I think i am more torn to the 400d and the saving can go on decent len been looking at a canon len with image stabliser built in dont know what model it was but it was about £300

Or is there some other cam i should at>?

I would say to stick to a Canon model. That way you and your Father in Law can swap lens as both you of will have the same system.

I would suggestion trying out the 400D and 30D in a shop and see how you find them. FStop11 is correct in saying that the 30D is better camera out of the three, I have one myself and find it better built and faster than the 350D and 400D. Although it's all down to personal preference.
