Hi ive bought a house but the garden seems to be shaded even at 5pm which is the only time ive been up there when it was sunny (this weekend)

How does the sun behave in mid summer ? is it higher? does direction does the sun rise and fall?

My house is north west facing.... im sure ive heard its best to buy a house that is south facing?

Rises in the east, sets in the west.

However, we live north of the hemisphere so the sun will always appear to the south of us. So yes, in order to get the most sun you will want to face south.

How many sides does your house have?

House is detached so has four sides but there is a say a 8ft space between the next house so really the other houses will shade the garden aswell.

Yea but the front of the house is facing North to West.

Thanks guys, as long as we get decent sun out the back garden in the summer that will be great.

Btw im based in S.Wales

So your back garden is S.E which is perfect tbh. You might miss the evening sun but it's no biggie.

Yes back garden is facing S.E, so is that best then :) shame the 2 main bedrooms are at the fron of the house and the 2 smaller ones are in the back haha.

Ah well house will be built by may, im gonna be spending many months out in that garden in the summer getting it sorted - bring on the sun :-)

Thanks guys!!!

The Sun doesn't rise and fall, it doesn't move at all! It's the earths rotation that makes it appear that way.

Sorry
