just got an rx480 and i cannot get 4k to work with 60hz and deep colour through the hdmi as apparently its bandwidth is capped ?

so i can only get it from the display port but i need an active adapter
and not sure which to get as i can not seem to find a dp 1.4 adapter the ocuk one is 1.2

anyone lead me in the right direction please

Rx 480 supports HDMI2.0 so if you're just after 4:4:4 this should be supported @60hz. It's likely just the HDMI cable.

If you're after 10 bit colour @60hz, you have bigger issues! HDMI 2.0 does not support 4:4:4 @ 10 bit colour and 60 hz, you have to choose any 2.

A Displayport adaptor won't help you, as you're still converting to HDMI 2.0.

You'd need a TV with a displayport input.

it worked fine on my old r9 280 on hdmi same settings just blacks my tv out at any res and refresh rate with a 480
i watched a youtube vid of someone saying it only works with a displayport adapter converter

i thought the hdmi cable was a myth for needing a 2.0 one and just a marketing ploy?

Your 290 over HDMI did not support 2.0 and therefore was either running at less than 4k, less than 60hz, or less than 4:4:4 colour.

The 290 CANNOT do 3840x2160@60hz and 32bpp in 4:4:4 over HDMI, and needs an active converter for HDMI2.0 If you think you had this, you must have been running in 4:2:2 or something without realising.

The 480 supports HDMI 2.0. As such it can do 3840x2160@60hz, with 4:4:4 colour at 32bpp (8bit per subpixel). You don't need an active adaptor for this.

If you are after 10bit colour (40bpp) you exceed the bandwidth of HDMI 2.0 even. An active adaptor will not help you.

Yes, you don't need a "2.0" cable, but if you are using a long cable that was fine at HDMI 1.4 bandwidth, there is no assurance it can cope with HDMI 2.0 bandwidth. You need a high quality cable especially if it is a long run.

have managed to fiddle around with it and got 8bit 4:2:0 at 60hz 4k through hdmi
no option for 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 on the ati panel deep colour is activated now too on the tv without signal loss

i drop down to 30hz i get the options for 4:4:4

cable run is only 2 meters

Deep colour over hdmi works fine for me at uhd 60hz with my rx 470 connected to a lg 4k tv with a normal hdmi lead.

I had to enable deep colour in the TV setting menu.

Its a lg TV set to PC on the correct HDMI for deep colour
Gonna give a dp adapter a go see if it goes too 4:4:4

An active DP adaptor is just to support HDMI 2.0 which you already have on the RX480. HDMI 2.0 is needed for 4k@60hz 4:4:4, but you have this.

You're wasting money, I'd try a few different cables.

Edit: Unless you're after 10 bit colour, in which case you can't have it at 4:4:4 60hz, because even HDMI 2.0 does not have the bandwidth.

Tryed different cables no joy, dp defaults 4:4:4 so hopefully get it that way using the adapter. A guy has same prob as me and using a club3d dp adapter cures it. Currently unable to get 4k60hz. 4:4:4 I keep loosing display signal
