What Distro on old Laptop?

Hey, I'm thinking off buying a cheap ol' laptop and installing Linux on it. What are some light, but good distro's that aren't a proformance hog? Thanks

My favourite ... Debian.

And it would run well on a pretty old machine? Basicly want it for web browsing on couch, and to maybe play some games I got from the HUmble INdie Bundle (VERY light gaming), and maybe some word processing.
