right then, i need a little advice.

I bought, second hand, an antec 300 with an extra 3 120mm fans and an IDE dvd writer for £53 shipped.

When it arrived the package had been dropped and the corner of the case was all mangled, but i fixed it with pliers, so it is alright now.

When i first started installing the components, the psu wouldnt fit right becuase of the damage to the case

Then when screwing in the Mobo, the standoffs didnt properly align becuase of the damage

The cable management was very poor - there is only one hold to get the cables round!

Then the fans were stupidly loud so i disconnected the three extra ones which has not changed the temps more than about 2 degrees (it also has the d-14 with two fans)

Then i realise that my gd65 doesnt even have an IDE header so i cant use the dvd drive

summary:
- case knackered
- fans irrlevant
- poor cable management
- drive irrelevant

so im wondering whether to ask for a refund (but i have to post it at £20 of my expense) and buy a nicer case like the 600t

i really dont know what to do guys - suggestions please

If it dont fit then send it back.

did you spot the damage when you received it? did you tell the courier? can you claim on their insurance? etc etc.

The case being dropped is more the delivery companies fault and would be covered by the insurance you paid for carriage. If you paid no insurance then it's basically you who is liable for the damage and not the seller.

The fans making a noise. Well this depends on how they were described in the advert. Fans are noisy, especially when not used with a fan controller.

Antec 300 doesn't have wonderful cable management and this already the situation before you bought it.

The drive being irrelevant is your mistake.

With a first hand retail sale you could return under DSR but second hand I think the seller won't be too interested in having a damaged case back. Just saying.

^ alright Mr Grumps upstairs :p

the seller has insurance and has said he will give me a refund if i send it back, im just wondering if it is the right thing to do

Don't think he was being grumpy, just pointing out the information you need to know.

If the seller is giving a full refund then you are very lucky and should definately take it up. Think about it, if you keep the case you'll need to spend £13+ on new optical, £7+ on each fan, and then you still have a case you aren't happy with which is battered and no one will ever buy off you if you decide to sell in the future...

Definately send it back.

If it's covered under insurance then you might as well return it. Still it's a wasted £20. At least you'll have £33 left to put towards a new case and stuff. To be fair though you'll struggle to get a better case, fans and an optical drive for £33.

Why did you buy it to start with, you coulda of gotten all of those items brand new for an extra £16.

when i got i thought it was a bargain:

antec 300 ~ £50
three fans ~ £20
dvd writer ~ £15
shipping ~ £10

so it would have been around £95 instead of £53 that i paid

i thought i was saving £40, not wasting £53 :p

Please remember, this is the first complete system i have ever built - my experience is miniscule compared to some of the people on this forum - i agree, it was a mistake buying this case second hand, but i have now gained that knowledge (hopefully! :p)

i hope that the seller agrees to the refund and if so, ill buy a new - more suitable case :)
