My 775 motherboard died the other day, so it is now finally time to upgrade, as I'm stuck using an AM2 FX62 fileserver for now

I do now have 8GB of DDR3 though, and no system to use it in

Do I:

1) Get i5?

2) Wait for Bulldozer?

3) Get some AM3 system?

4) Get a cheap 775 board for now and then do 2)

5) Use the FX62 until AM3+ boards are out, then get an AM3+ board and an AM3 CPU for it?

See, my current 775 board (granted it is 4 years old) failed by killing its SATA controllers, so I don't really want to get SB .. ever :D

I fancy a return to AMD for a while, after being with Intel for ages, but the lack of of AM3+ boards is just stupid, as I want to get a board that will let me upgrade the CPU down the line :(

I am in exactly the same position, and going to wait or bulldozer I think.
Can't have another hardware issue for the time being!

If you only have one or two HDDs you can get SB and just use the 6 Gbps SATA ports - they are unaffected by the flaw. Then get the motherboard replaced later.

See, I want to merge by fileserver and desktop back together again, so I would need at least 6 SATA ports :(

Yes I can wait until Intel fix their mess, but that would mean having to run the SB in a tiny crappy case with crappy cooling that my 775 was in, as opposed to the Antec 900 that my fileserver currently uses. And I want to clock the nuts off the new build, so it needs the proper case

Well, I'm now even more stuck as to what to do :(

I thought it was my motherboard that fried itself, but it turns out it is the 775 CPU that has killed itself as it gives the same issue with my new 775 board.

So now I have no worthwhile PC to use period :(

Spending £70+ on a half decent 775 CPU also does not appeal to me :(
