What do I need? A Hub or a Switch?

Hi all,

My friend has a Gigabit Network port in his room.

But he needs to connect 4 or 5 PCs and ideally would like them all to be on a Gigabit connection.

What shall we connect to this Network port in his room?

A hub or a Gigabit Switch?

Can you even get Gigabit hubs??

Get a gigabit switch

Hubs broadcast to all ports , switches only send traffic to the one port it needs to

Can you even buy hubs anymore? They were long ago superseded by switches.

For the price of switches now its not worth getting a hub.. Although as Badgerpoo said, I haven't seen a hub for sale in ages!

although people slate belkin, i've got a belkin 5port gigabit switch, speeds are top notch thorugh it (used it for the exact same purpose as your mate wants)

Most cheap gigabit switches will give you more than accetable performance for a home network.
