what do i need to get my 360 wireless controller working with my pc games

Yea, there's a wireless receiver, plugs into usb. OcUK sell the controller and receiver combined, but they can be bought separately.

I know with Win7 you just need to plug it in, no software req.

okies i'll look around for them ocuk sell a bundle but obviously don't need the controller.

Is it possible to use the play and charge cable i have to use the controller

I too tried using the play and charge cable in the vein hope it might work :p but just ended up getting one of the PC 360 kits off OcUK and it worked first time - Just Cause 2 didn't even need any settings changed ... it just knew :)

Next up is Batman: AA!

How does this receiver know not to switch my x box on instead of playing through pc.

i can see it now sitting here playing with a 360 controller while inadvertently deleting the contents of my 360 HDD:D

You sync it to the receiver the same way you sync it to the xbox. press the button on the receiver and the button on the pad or wireless headset.

Works a treat as other have said.

does that mean if i want to play on the 360 i have to re-sync each time with the console

Yep! Which is why I just bought myself a wired version for my PC (or buy yourself the bundle to have the pad for the PC) to save myelf doing that every time. Would get so tedious. When I was looking around the wireless receiver was OOS everywhere and around £12-£14 and bumped up considerably by resellers on the sites that offer that, and a wired one was £17.99. No-brainer for me. Oh yeah it's worth pointing out, they sell it in a "PC" package (the wired pad this is), aswell as just for the 360, and the PC variant was lower in price by a good fiver upwards for the EXACT same pad...

GTA4, Batman and JC2 (Fallout too I believe but I have no personal knowledge of that), all accept the pad, and all switch the little icons on screen telling you what to press just by moving the mouse or the analogue stick or such, so you can use both on the fly (is good if you need precision shooting with the mouse!).
