hello all,

I have had a look to see if this question may have been asked before, I couldnt find anything, heres what I require help with if possible,

I will be moving my single computer from a room that has a telephone point which I use for broadband connection, to a room that doesnt have a telephone point, I was wondering firstly if it is possible to have a wireless connection that enables me to get the broadband connection in the other room or would I have to run a length of cable? and secondly if I can get the wireless connection, what items would I need to purchase?

I am currrently on AOL 1meg broadband, standard usb adsl bt voyager 105 modem.

thanks for any assistance

Andy

option 1: ADSL router (wireless) + wireless PCI NIC.
option 2: wired router (cheaper than wireless) and cable to your PCs ethernet port.
option 3: run a phone cable extension from the phone socket to the new room and attach the modem to it. this can be future proofed by running Cat5 cable room to room and terminating it into RJ45 wall boxes, then plugging a bt connectior to RJ11 from phone socket to one end, then RJ11 to RJ11 cable from the other end to the modem. That way should you get another PC and upgrade to a router you can replace those with ethernet cables and lose the modem and your off again.
