Hi,

I have some requirements and would like to know the ways i can go about achieveing this. Note i want a new pc next year. so my current pc could be used for the requirements.

1. Backup of data on home computers (would prefer image backups)

2. record/save Freeview tv onto hard drive, which can be transferred / viewed over home network.

3.Stream media to other TV which is not internet enabled.

So what can i use?
The options i can think of are:

1. make a media pc for the TV downstairs that is not internet enabled, but wireless link the media pc once it has saved the programs from the tv.

2. use my current pc as a media pc after buying parts. Note tv reception is this room is terrible so a external aerial of some sort much be used, the tv aerial cannot be used in this case.

3. buy a home server to store all the data on, and somehow make that into a media pc also.

I can get Windows Server 2008 R2 for free, but i cannot get Windows Home Server. Other OS or programs will be considered.
( if i go for the 2008 R2 i might want radius wireless and domained pc's, but that is the least important)

Hi

Ok these are just some ideas, I am by no means an expert here but here goes:

1. Image backups? Linux = PING, otherwise.................................Paragon????

2. What about something like this: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products/data_hvr2200mckit.html

3. RyanHD???? HMDI into your TV and FE to your streaming PC, works well

Why do you need Radius and Active Directory to achieve the above? are you trying to do this over wireless?

Cheers for reply mate, you know more than me.

1. will have a look at those but would have prefered some freeware ones if possible.

2. Would it be better to buy one with dual digital tuners rather than 1 of each? Im not sure about how digital tuner cards work. Especially with that one being £100 thought they were far cheaper.

Another thing is it warns about aerial's as i said my aerial in my room is shocking. Downstairs is a normal aerial and Sky, so i could plug the Sky aerial into the tv so it still gets a picture and the normal aerial into the tv card to mess with the freeview?

3. Not sure that you mean by FE?

4. If i got a mini server id probs put Windows R2 2008 on it. Make my router radius etc. the tv downstairs is not internet enabled, well both arnt but one is plugged into my pc via HDMI so that one isnt a problem.
