I pay a stupid amount per month for Virgin Tivo, bundled with broadband and phone. I'm coming close to the end of my contract and will be cancelling. Rather than switching to Sky, I'm thinking to stop paying into something like Sky or Virgin altogether. Just wondering what setup I need (if it's possible) to for the kind of viewing that I want.

I still watch and enjoy the main terrestrial channels in HD but mainly recorded which I watch later. Occasionally I use catchup services but I prefer recording it as the quality is better and I can skip through ads. The solution to this is simple - I'd probably get a Panasonic freeview recorder.

I like my movies and I watch and record them a lot on our Sky Movies HD package. I'll buy certain movies on blu ray for the best viewing experience as I have a modest but able 5.1 system.

I suppose the main question is? What service can I use for HD movies? I thought Now TV filled this gap nicely with the movie package but I found out that it only outputs at 720p which is an instant no from me. The Panasonic freeview recorder has access to Netflix and Amazon Video (both of which I'm not currently a subscriber) but they won't offer the latest movies that Sky does. Unless I'm wrong on that? I don't mind paying monthly for a movie service or individually to rent movies online, I'm just wondering what service to get? Maybe I'm trying to have my cake and eat it and I should just sign up to Lovefilm to get a few blu rays per month to watch.

Edit: no illegal stuff. :p

£120 a month all in. I just feel I could get more for my money elsewhere.

I thought all of Sky HD was 1080i?

Check what Netflix have, I was under the impression they had a better offering than sky, no idea where I got that assumption from. Amazon prime has a number of other benefits worth considering , but was under the impression it doesn't have the range of Netflix.
