Hi

I have a synology DS215+ and a rasberry pi 2.

I did plan to run plex server on my ds215+ but its not supported yet :/

i have tried ds video on my samsung tv to watch but that is buffering on 1080p content so i have a PI2 that i can use instead.

What should i set up on the Pi to stream my video? I want the nas to do the transcoding etc and the pi play only.

I know nothing about linux so could someone point me in the direction of some guides to follow?

thanks.

I play 1080p films through DSvideo app on my smart TV streamed from my NAS, I have no buffering issues, are you using wifi on the TV?

How big a file are the films?

I have one at 15gb that starts buffering after 5 minutes and it is then every few seconds. If i pause it for a minute or so it catches up and plays as normal but will start buffering again.

Some are full rips so over 50GB and they play fine, try using an Ethernet cable before discarding the smart TV function.

it is wired, ive not tried it today but the pi took 5 mins to set up.

only problem is it is a 1080p film on 1080p tv but is letter boxed. need to play in settings.

I use rasplex on my pi 2, i think it uses smb to play the files from my server where the plex server runs. Runs really well leave it on 24x7 (the pi that is not the server)

the synology model i purchased does not support plex. once it does i iwll go back to that i think.

thought i might update this for anyone that has the same synology.

Plex is not supported on the DS215+!

coupled with the app on my samsung tv, all is well in the world :)

works great now with no issues what so ever.
