Hi Guys,

Just got ARMA 2 and while it looks amazing I would like some more performance

Im running

q6600 g0 at 3.0ghz
xfx 780i
4gb dominator ram
280 GTX

I think my CPU is my bottleneck, shall I go for more overclock, or is it worth upgrading the CPU do you think?

Thanks in advance
:)

Eeek! That's worrying! We've got similar spec's. I've got my CPU at 3.2gz, but I believe your GPU is faster than mine! Bit worrying you're not finding it good enough for ARMA2 as I plan on getting it too!

Can't see a further overclock helping. Say you manage (like me) to get to 3.2ghz, that's only about 6% faster, which you won't notice.

I suspect you'll need a faster CPU, which you can overclock as easily as the Q6600... Any suggestions anyone?

What resolution and seting are you playing at?

1680x1050 most at high at the moment, I do need to tweak the settings a bit as i only had a quick play arround, but as an example I was in a town messing about and threw a grenade that must have hit a petrol tank..the resulting smoke from the explosion ground my machine to a halt!! :-0

Totally agree mate, its deffo CPU bound rather than GPU but what do i got to???!!

If you are only playing at 1680x1050 then your rig should easily be more than enough. Another poorly coded game maybe? Can you get any more out of your Q6600? Most should hit 3.4-3.6Ghz.

when nothing is happening im up in the 30`s FPS but as soon as the CPU starts crunching it all goes downhill!! :)

I can squeeze some more out of my cpu probably and will give it a go tonight :)

Seriously, you won't notice the difference! Say you get it to 3.3ghz. Your 30fps will go upto about 31-33fps... And if you're down at 15fps, it will go at best go upto about 16fps...

Ummm.... Errr.... How can you deduce poorly coded? How do you know what it's coded to do? Maybe he's got loads of option on aimed at super high spec machines?

Totally agree, this game is massive, and so ambitious that to say it is poorly coded is a cheap shot at best! I will get there its just gonna take a bit of tweaking. Im gonna try bringing down some settings first.

TBF Arma 1 was the same at release, So it will probably get better a few patches down the road.

It is still amazing though! :)

Given how operation flashpoint handled when it came out who knows if its badly coded. If this is true thou i'll be bummed i was hopeing to get gud frames with my 4870 @ that ress.
