I'm not too sure if the cpu will handle any crazy new games, but also my cards are so stupidly noisy its mind numbing and they need to go!!

What resolution are you gaming at ?

1080p :o

I used to always game with headphones until they broke a few days ago, then realised how brutal my cards are on games like mechwarrior online.

Maybe i should set up a custom fan profile for them both, but to be fair i'm sick of crappy crossfire drivers coming out months after game releases. Not having that for fallout4

but wouldnt a 980ti or 390x be overkill?

A GTX 980Ti might be overkill but then how long do you want the card to last for?

Getting a R9 390X won't be much of an upgrade for you, they are essentially just R9 290X's with higher clock speeds and a few other tweaks. Your R9 280X is not slow enough for me to recommend upgrading to a R9 390X.

Another option could be to get the cheaper GTX 970 that lots of people are going for. It is good value at the moment, might become better value once we get some reviews of the R9 Fury cards though. I expect prices to be changing through July so I would wait until the end of July before doing an upgrade, if for no other reason than to get a discount.

I see i see

i wont be upgrading until autumn anyway realistically unless i put in some extrahard work and then sell my cards.

Is the 970 better than two 280x?

good idea, i'm waiting until then to build up some cash

but not too sure what my budget will be, i would feel disgusted with myself spending over £400 just on a card :(

i just cant stand the noise of my cards, its so hot the case is off which doesnt help

got a headset instead to muffle the noise. Going to save and wait until Aautum to get a card and probably a new high end cpu/mobo like my 2600k was many many moons ago.

whats on the hype train regarding upcoming cpu tech?

Still rocking the 2600K here, not planning on upgrading until it dies or actually starts to struggle, I've not been CPU bound in a game yet. I am fining my 680s starting to struggle with some ultra settings (mostly gloss like hairworks) but might move back to 1080p, hard choice.

What headset did you get?

just a razer pro. its bit crappy
