Just started a thread below about upgrading my system, and wondered what people did with their old systems? I personally upgrade the whole system and give my old ones to family relatives... Do you do the same or do you sell off the parts on flea-bay or MM?

I understand selling parts off helps your new build, but theres nothing better than giving a family friend your old pc, which to them, is MILES better than the one they already own... :D

Any thoughts?...

i give mine to my family aswell, Mum has my amd+2100.. and my current rig AMD64 +6400 is gonna go to my dad when I go to duo 2 at the end of this month, my dad really can't wait :)

Keep them as mess around PCs, servers etc.

Upgrade my gf's pc.

She now has a 2400+M and a 9700 pro, nice step up from the 1.1Ghz Duron and shared onboard graphics she had before :D

Flea bay!

But it depends really - if I can make £150 from it then I'll sell it, but anything less I'll give parts away really to family.

i do both...give away or try and flog on flea bay.

incidently only just gave away a nice sony 21" E500 monitor yesterday to my cousin

but on subject, yup have gave away 2 pc 2 family members, u right, they know its a mill times better than there rig :D :D

Flea-bay here. My old OCZ PC4200 Gold XTC almost covered the cost of my new Geil PC-6400 :D

I upgraded in January to a new A64 system. My Dad got my old P4 2.8, 1Gb Memory, 9800SE rig. Doesn't sound amazing, but he was using a 433MHz P3 w/ 512Mb Ram + 20GB HDD to run Windows XP!

well, for me they go in this order:

family - gf - the bay/mm - spare box :p

OT: say hello to the new "wiseguy" :D

so far I've given out about 6 computers to my family, built about a further 10 for good mates work colleagues etc. If I can build something out of bits I seem to accumulate (christ knows where this stuff appears from!) but just need a new psu/case etc, then I let someone know and then cobble something up.. The great thing is now I'm starting to get friends of friends ringing me lol.. Seems not many folks realise you have to keep your pc clean and clean it up every so often, so I offer a 'health check'. I back up stuff and generally get the comp to run about 3 million miles better. PC planet and such like charge 60+ for this, I tend to charge 20-30 depending on how long it takes. I also advise on new builds, and upgrades.. virtually all my graphics cards and drives, mboards etc (high end stuff) I have 4 or 5 mates who buy my stuff which was 'cutting edge' for like 60% of the price I paid like 3 months earlier.. sure does keep the expenses in check!!

Damn, wrote a novel here, sowweee!!
