Trying to work out what to do with the hearth in the master bedroom. Currently the room is not carpeted but has polished floorboards instead. (I know some people prefer this, but I don't like this in a bedroom. Yes, it looks good - but it's draughty and I like nice cosy thick pile carpet in bedrooms!).

The fireplace is centred in the chimney breast but the hearth is not. I assume this is because originally the fireplace would have been offset (can see the skirting board has been patched). The fireplace is not functional and when installed was likely centred as it looks better.

I'm now not sure what to do with carpet. Do I carpet up to the fireplace (might get dirty from debris from the chimney), carpet up to the hearth (might look odd as it's off centre) or should I tile part of the hearth and part of the floor to the side to make it look like it has a hearth that is centred? (the tile idea only came to me as I was typing this. Rubber duck debug!)

The chimney is blocked off (capped) as far as I know, and where the fire would go is full of pebbles already.

Had something similar before, ended up getting a huge rug.to go under the bed and about 700mm around it, then left the rest so we had the look of boards but nice and cozy when you step out of bed...

Then how could it get dirty from debris from the chimney?

I wouldn't worry too much about it, just carpet the room as your normally would taking it right up to the fire itself.

Just carpet over the hearth and up to the fireplace. Or remove the fireplace, plaster up the cavity, put a vent in it and stick a plant pot or something in there.
