Tricky one there. A modern GPU would be fine with that CPU, especially if we're talking 1440p, however I would be reluctant to put more money into the current platform as 1333mhz DDR is going to cost you some performance. These older i7 CPU's are ok but work best with new graphics cards when you have 2400mhz+ DDR3.
