Hi there,

Sorry for this once again, but my sister finally paid all the cash for the PC, so its time to hand it over to her lol. Im now looking at new PC's, but im kinda outa loop haha. I came across these parts and wondered what you all though.

  • Intel CPU Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz 1333FSB LGA775 4MB cache Retail
  • Gigabyte motherboard GA-P35C-DS3R
  • Crucial 2GB Kit (2x1GB) Ballistix Memory DDR2 PC2-5300
  • OCZ 600SXS StealthXStream 600W PSU
  • 320GB Hitachi Deskstar SATA II 300 16MB cache 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive
  • XpertVision GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB DDR3
  • 19" LG TFT LCD monitor L194WT 5ms widescreen DVI Silver/black 2000:1Steelpad® QcK Professional Gamer's non-slip cloth mouse pad
  • NEC Optiarc AD-7170S-0B SATA Black 18x DVD ±RW/RAM DL oem Multiwriter
  • ThermalTake Armour Jr case black VC3000BWS
  • Thermalright Ultra-120 CPU Heatpipe Heatsink
  • Logitech® MX™518 Gaming-Grade™ Optical Mouse
  • Arctic Cooling Thermal Paste MX-1
  • Zalman 12CM Silent System fan

Altogether it came to about £820 inc del. I was wondering what others come up with. I guess i can spend around £850, stretching it lol. Im a tight wad! I'll mainly be using it for work/gaming (thought i might get back into it) Multi-tasking *** lol. I will be also Overclocking, anything else you want to know, just ask.

Thanks a lot

Why not get a quad core? There such beasts :P if you use anything like photoshop or multitask with a few demanding applications like photoshop/video-rendering all at once they are so fast and even just for multi-tasking!

Don't get pc5400 you want at least pc2-6400 memory such as corsair twinx 2gig-currently on this week only, I'd spend the extra £15 and get the c2d e6750.

The hyundai imagequest x220wa 22" widescreen is only £160 if you can stretch to it and we make use of the 8800 gts <- I'd seriously suggest a bigger monitor even if you have to get a cheaper mouse etc.

Other than that looks fine to me

It all looks fine, no obvious flaws with it. I was going to ask where the CPU heatsink was to go with the thermal paste but it just got tucked up with the case. Have you checked to make sure that the case will house the graphics card as well? I think it should be fine but it doesn't hurt to be sure. :)

Ive checked out pics on the case and it seems big enough (HDD's aren't sticking out as they are placed in differently than my other thermaltake case) Also I got the lower speed ram as its balistix and ive heard how they are good clockers, so can easily reach the speeds I need to get to be happy :). Id get all the bells and whistles, its just trying to justify why id need such a beast, if Im not that hardcore myself lol.

The Ram is indeed a good choice, some people have been getting 1000mhz or more out of it, obviously no guarantees of that with you but it does seem to be pretty capable. :)

Thanks, I did look at what a few parts were capable of. I think its a nice step up from what I used to use lol. Can finally get some more new games now, haha. There were a few things that took awhile to decide on, like the case, CPU cooler, HDD etc.

Can someone tell me the difference between all these Gigabyte DS3 boards.. they all sound the same, but different in price.. Is there any major real difference? Also is that a decent system fan to place on the thermalright cooler?

Sorry to bump this thread, but the strangest thing happened... my mother actually told me to spend more on the PC, if I want it to last me longer than my current one (Lasted a year before I decided to sell it on) So now my budget has risen to £1,000 inc Del. Though i guess it doesnt seem strange when its my cash im spending and not theirs lol. I will need everything, apart from keyboard and OS though.

Something like this might do, quad core, 4gb Ram and a larger monitor. I've left a bit of space in the budget so that you can change around a couple of parts/add in an aftermarket CPU cooler if necessary. :)

Thanks for that. I think I may swap out the ram for the balistix, 2gb isnt bad, as I can add to the motherboard without having to take things away etc in the future. unlike a CPU, Gfx card etc. Overall, a good spec mate. Quad-core should last me for a long time, hopefully haha.

About the case also, Im not looking for some flashy one, just one thats a decent size and ok for cooling. Not like im gonna parade it around the streets lol

lil update. After I managed to get a gfx card at a cracking price(£210), I went with the above spec, with a few changes.. well 1 or 2 lol.

A few questions though.

  1. Do you think the case is adequate enough to fit a 2900XT in there? I know in a review on the product itself, they say they can fit in a 8800GTX etc, just wondered if anyone else knew.
  2. Is the cooler adequate enough to cool down the Q6600, also will it be a tight fit on the motherboard lol.
  3. Will the motherboard be ok to OC the Q6600
  4. The monitor; is an "ok" one for gaming compared the hyundai one? Which do you think will be better and will take advantage of the GPU (2900XT 1gb)

Overall with the money that I spent on the GPU, it does my budget lol. Hopefully its enough hehe.
