What do you call non-web forwarding

What's the proper term for web hosting where the domain is hosted directly on the server. Kind of the opposite to web forwarding, if you know what i mean.

web forwarding in when a web address eg. yourname.com is forwarded to e.g. ip 123.123.123.123 or another domain e.g. yourname1.com

email forwarding is the same kind of basis

webhosting is where the site is physically hosted

hope this makes a bit of sense

I suppose virtual server is the word(s) i was looking for. Thanks anyway
